Today I want to talk about a topic that is really close to my heart and it concerns mostly beginner witches or witches who haven’t found their way Set and look for inspiration on the internet.
Now the Internet is a great place to find inspiration, whole spells or to learn about new things like tarot cards or shadow work. I myself use the Internet daily to learn new things.
BUT it can also make you feel like you need to have or do certain things to practice witchcraft ‚correctly‘. And this is what angers me deeply, because in my opinion, witchcraft is all about intent and energy and doing what feels right to you.
My biggest example is the use of sage. Basically every single cleansing tutorial you find uses sage and it can really make you feel like you can’t cleanse correctly if you don’t have or don’t like sage. But this is completely wrong! You can cleanse however you want. If you want to cleanse with music, do it. If you want to physically clean your room to cleanse or take a shower to cleanse yourself, do it! You want to cleanse by banging pots and pans together? Awesome!
My point is, I think witchcraft only works if you believe that what you are doing is working.
I think witchcraft is about using what you have. You don’t need to harvest and dry your own herbs if you’d rather use the ones you already have in your kitchen. You don’t need fancy utensils and candles in every colour possible. You can obviously do it if you want to! But I think there are a lot of people who can’t, don’t want to or can’t afford to.
Witchcraft is about doing what feels right to you. You don’t care about colour magic? Don’t take it into account! You don’t like crystals or can’t buy every different type? That’s fine!
I don’t feel like a spell gets more powerful the more types of witchcraft you include. It’s powerful if it comes from your heart, you set the right intentions and energy and spend time on it. By that I mean that spells can grow weaker after some time and will only grow powerful again if you meditate on it or redo it or just think about it.
I do not want to tell any one how to practice witchcraft because it’s different for everyone. I’m also not telling you to stop using the internet because I’m going to keep doing it myself. I just want you to keep in mind that it’s all about what you want and what you think is right, and not what someone on the Internet tells you to do.
I apologize for this unusual and more emotional blog entry and I wish you all a blessed time before the feast of Lughnasadh/Lammas!
